Northern Group embarks on Yorkshire expansion with deal for Leeds site

Multi-disciplinary property consultancy, OBI, has acquired a Grade II-listed mixed use building, Sovereign House, in Leeds, on behalf of Manchester-based property management and development group, Northern Group.

Located in the heart of Leeds city centre, Sovereign House offers 20,574 sq ft of Grade A office space across four floors, as well as 15,887 sq ft of leisure space across basement and ground floors, currently occupied by popular socialising brands, Flight Club and Electric Shuffle.

Northern Group has set Leeds as a strategic investment destination due to its leisure, connectivity, and prime position in the UK.

This acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, will be Northern Group’s first purchase in Leeds, following a number of major investments in Manchester, including 19 Spring Gardens (37,000 sq ft) and 76 King Street (41,414 sq ft).

Flight Club and Electric Shuffle allow guests to enjoy high quality food and drink with an interactive, social gaming experience, attracting both corporate and leisure audiences.

Sovereign House will be the only building outside London to hold the dual concept.

Reimagined by leading architects DLA Design, the office spaces at Sovereign House aim to provide a professional, contemporary workspace among the business and vibrancy of Leeds city centre.

Following a £1.8m investment, Sovereign House has been fully repositioned to deliver a highly flexible Grade A bracket, providing a CAT A and fully fitted space.

Jacob Jolly, transactions and asset management at OBI, said: Sovereign House has proven itself to be a highly impressive building.

“Enriched with so much history, the building is perfect for businesses wanting to base themselves right in the heart of Leeds city centre, with stand out leisure amenities right on their doorstep.”

He added: “The OBI team were pleased to help Northern Group with this landmark acquisition as they continue to grow their presence in yet another major UK city.”

Paul Dobbs, Northern Group’s COO, said: “This acquisition is an exciting one for Northern Group and takes us into another vibrant northern city and reflects our continued commitment to investing in future-facing city centres.

“Sovereign House’s unique position at the intersection of Leeds’s core commercial, leisure, and retail districts makes it a fantastic opportunity for long term value creation.”

Sovereign House has Grade A office space in both CAT A and CAT B specification available.
